Donor/s: Planning & Development Department– Government of Sindh and World Bank
Duration: 18 months 2023-2024
Target Group/s: Semi-skilled and unskilled rural laborers of the flood-affected areas
Covering Districts: (9) Sanghar, Shaheed Benazirabad, Naushahro Feroz, Khairpur, Kamber-Shadadkot, Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, and Ghotki.
Project Objective/s:
SFERP Component 2 Livelihoods Restoration aims to conduct a public works program across the most affected districts of Sindh in the 2022 floods, in the first phase of six months (June 2023 onwards). The initial phase of the program will focus on the 14 most impacted districts. The works will operate on the concept of a ‘double dividend’, where the ‘first dividend’ is improved village-level physical infrastructure, and the ‘second dividend’ is income generation for the flood affectors in the villages (40% of whom will be from vulnerable groups). The twin objectives of the works are:
- Build or rehabilitate village-level public/community assets and physical and natural infrastructure to sustain urgent basic services (clean water supply, sanitation, local roads, watershed interventions, and other climate-resilient assets).
- Provide income support to poor, vulnerable households through short-term, intensive, semi-skilled, and unskilled labor so they can meet essential needs.
Social Mobilization Partners (SMPs) serving as implementing agencies for the program are SRSO, NRSP, and TRDP. A consistent operational strategy will be followed by all SMPs while operating in each of their target districts.
Major Activities:
Cash For Work Activities: 700 to each laborer’s daily wages total of 25 working days, for a total of 17500 grants to be paid to laborers.
